GlacialSpoon (Robert Kemp) follows up his memorable dubstep Zelda 64 jam 'Saria's Drop' from November of 2011 with a really rather cool EDM take on Sonic Colors, incorporating some chip components & very creative mangling of in-game samples

'Hello to the esteemed judging panel of awesomeness. Thanks again for all the criticism and feedback. I can understand all of the points made and opinions felt, but some of them were pulling in different directions. This has a few more alterations including some more layered synths on the intro, some minor pattern alterations, a cut in the beats around the second bridge to act as the 'reprieve,' and a bit of noise. I think it has ended up a bit better than the original submission thanks to your input.

I always thought that the music for Planet Wisp, whilst excellent, wasn't a total fit to the massive factory nightmare created by Eggman. So here's a more industrial mix with considerably less whimsy to sort that out! It probably doesn't suit the speed of the game now, but I see this as a more appropriate soundtrack to the miserable existence the enslaved Wisps might have.

Those are samples of the Wisp power-up announcer direct from the game. 'Rock it' is a convenient misuse of the 'Rocket' wisp! Combined, it's a mash of 'Lazer Burst Spikes Hover Hover Drill' with a few 'Cube' shouts chucked into a vocoder.'

Things get progressively more processed/complextro in the last two minutes, which helps alleviate repetition, as do the transitions, beat drops, and swirling chip arpeggios - all very cool, a moderate stylistic departure from the artist's debut mix, and quite well done; I'm not as familiar with the SC soundtrack, but this had me noddin' my head and humming along. It's hard to get a panel of judges to provide feedback that is 100% in unison & cohesive, but I'm glad Robert was able to take what he got and make his submission stronger. OA writes:

'This is a sweet arrangement, with a lot of clever ideas packed into a small scape. I'm a big fan of complextro done well, and this is getting it done. Both the arrangement and production OCR bars are being cleared, so it's more important to evaluate whether or not the song is interesting and exciting to the listener, which this track definitely excels at.'

Sounds about right; even though it was approved, the artist actually submitted a minor revision based on panel feedback, which addresses some of the comments about dynamic contrast. Overall, this arrangement hits hard, pulls a lot of tricks successfully, extracts a lot of melodic/harmonic material out of the source, and offers up five minutes of fun in the process; can't argue with that - enjoy!
