This page describes how to build, install and use the VMware guest GL driver (aka the SVGA or SVGA3D driver) for Linux using the latest source code. This driver gives a Linux virtual machine access to the host’s GPU for hardware-accelerated 3D. VMware Workstation running on Linux or Windows and VMware Fusion running on MacOS are all supported. So I have been asked if we can setup VMs in our Horizon env. running Workstation Player on them with a VM running in Workstation Player. This is due to the group that runs an event using WorkStation Player and giving out the VMs to run right before the event (competition). Just setting up the VMs in vCenter is a no go as they need Workstation Player so they can setup other virtual items. With COVID, they cant use the normal desktop PCs they use and install Workstation Player on, so they asked if we could do it.
To install Workstation Player on a VM, hardware assisted virtualization needs to be enabled, which forces me to remove the NVIDIA card as there are errors in vCenter if you try to enable assisted virtualization with the NVDIA Card (PCI Passthrough errors). That being said, once the NVIDIA card is removed, I did an uninstall of the Horizon Agent and Tools then reinstalled Tools with the SVGA driver and finally the agent.
The pool my test VM is in allows for 2 displays and a 2K resolution max, but when I login to the VM via Horizon Client, I am getting one screen at a lower resolution. The VM settings match the pool settings so I know the VM got the settings. Is this a limitation on the SVGA Driver? Do I need to enable 3D Rendering? Its currently disabled as I dont know much about Software / Hardware options outside of NVDIA card and what the Software / Hardware options do resource wise to the hosts.
Will SVGA 3D Driver do multiple displays?

Do I need 3D Rendering? Without the NVIDIA card do I need to use software rendering?
They also want to know how many VMs we could give them. With 64 logical processors per host and the fact that all VMs will be running at the same time and using resources, 32 would be max but would say less than that to leave some wiggle room, otherwise contention will start and cause more issues. Id like to just say we cant do it, but dont have a concrete reason to say why!
